La regina delle lounge chair, il must del furniture design americano: dal 1956 è la protagonista di scenografie senza tempo, di immagini senza luogo, di visioni senza limite. Non a caso è icona di molte scene cinematografiche quasi di espressività freudiana, dovuta forse al suo rassicurante e vigoroso volume, alle sue armoniose e sintetiche forme. In Italia è chiamata “la poltrona del giornalista” in generale è un prodotto che sopravvive alle evoluzioni dato che nel suo progetto c’è il gene stesso dell’evoluzione del design.
Dalla poltrona con ottoman del settecento ad una seduta che è il classico moderno per antonomasia: le curve barocche diventano elaborazioni sofisticate che contrapponendosi alla rigidità del legno generano sinuose declinazioni, segno di un progresso tecnico e di una ricerca avanguardistica senza precedenti.
Le opere d’arte degli Eames sono documentate da più di cento cortometraggi: sospese tra l’immaginazione e la realtà non sono mere rivisitazioni ma autentici prodotti d’innovazione che a partire dagli anni cinquanta e dai laboratori americani hanno sedotto senza sosta generazioni intere fino ai giorni nostri e hanno costruito le basi per il design contemporaneo. Aulico e poetico l’abbraccio della lounge chair è un viaggio mentale in cui l’amore per il bello incontra la sensazione di benessere. L’eleganza intangibile è la chiave di lettura di tutti i progetti degli Eames oggi per la maggior parte sviluppati in casa Vitra: snelli ed eterei galleggiano non si posano ma aspettano vibranti in una dimensione artistica organica e fluida.

The queen of the lounge chair, the must have of American furniture design: since 1956 it is the timeless leading designer, of placeless images, of visions without limit. Not by chance it is the icon of many cinematic scenes almost of Freudian expression, perhaps due to its soothing and vigorous volume, to its harmonious and synthetic forms.
In Italy it is called “the chair of the journalist.” Generally it is a product that survives to the evolutions since in its design there is the same gene of the design evolution.
From the eighteenth century armchair with ottoman to a chair that is the quintessential modern classic: the baroque curves become sophisticated processing in opposition to the rigidity of wood generating sinuous forms, a sign of technical progress and of an unprecedented avant-garde research.
The artworks Eames are documented by more than one hundred short films: suspended between imagination and reality they are not mere interpretations but authentic innovation products that from the fifties and from American laboratories have seduced generations without stopping until to the present day, and have built the foundations for contemporary design.
